what are applications of shunt release in circuit breaker

what are applications of shunt release in circuit breaker.

     A shunt trip device is an optional accessory in a circuit breaker that mechanically trips the breaker when power is applied to the shunt trip terminals. The power for the shunt trip does not come from within the breaker, so it must be supplied from an external source

Shunt trip circuit diagram.

shunt trip coil

     A shunt-trip coil is a built-in component of a shunt-trip circuit breaker. It is a magnetic coil that can be energized externally to make the breaker trip to shut off the flow of current.

What are the application of Under voltage release

 What are the application of Under voltage release

Under voltage release

        Under voltage release provides tripping the circuit breaker if the input voltage (phase or line) drops below 70% of the rated value. Also, it prevents the circuit breaker from closure if the voltage is below 85% of the rated value. The main purpose of the under voltage release is to de-energize electric equipment in case of impermissible reduction of voltage. Also, the release can be used as shunt release if a push button (NC) is connected in series with the circuit controlling the release. On short opening of the push-button contacts the release will trip the circuit breaker.

Under voltage relay

   A relay that has contacts that operate when the voltage drops below a set voltage. Under voltage relays are used for protection against voltage drops, to detect short-circuit faults,and more.

Under voltage coil

  • An Under Voltage coil is used to remotely trip a circuit breaker and some switch dis connectors.
  • An Under Voltage coil has to have a voltage applied to it to enable the device to close, and have the supply removed from it to trip the device.
  • An example of an application for an Under Voltage coil would be for emergency stop or load shedding.

proof of 1 hp = 746 watts

    Proof of 1 hp equal to 746 watts

HP = Horsepower

    HP and Watts are both units of power. Power can be electric or mechanical, and can be converted between the two. Any conversion will be less than 100 % efficient.

It is only for historic reasons that electrical power is measured in Watts not hp, like the way that tyre widths are in mm but rim diameter are in inches.

One pound is 4.44822 Newtons

so 550 foot pounds per seconds, converted to metric, is 550 x 0.3048 x 4.44822 Newton meters per second, which is 745.7 Newton meters per second, better known as Watts.

One foot is 0.3048 metres

1HP = 550 Foot Pound per second

1 Pound = 4.44822 Newtons

1 Foot is 0.3048 Meters.

1 HP = 550 * 4.44822 * 0.3048 meters

1Hp = 745.69 Newton meter per second.

A 1 hp motor cannot use less than 745.7 Watts so if it uses 1 kW it is about 75% efficient, which sounds about right for a motor of that size.

One mechanical horsepower of 550 foot-pounds per second is equivalent to 745.7 watts.

* A metric horsepower of 75 kgf-m per second is equivalent to 735.499 watts.

* A boiler horsepower is used for rating steam boilers and is equivalent to 34.5 pounds of water evaporated per hour at 212 degrees Fahrenheit, or 9,809.5 watts.

* One horsepower for rating electric motors is equal to 746 watts.

* A Pferdestärke is a name for a group of similar power measurements used in Germany around the end of the 19th century, all of about one metric horsepower in size.

* An RAC horsepower or British tax horsepower is an estimate based on several engine dimensions.
